Funding for employees (Qualifizierungschancengesetz, Section 82 SGB III): Under section 82 SGB III, the employment agency can fund training for employees. This is also known as the Qualifizierungschancengesetz (Qualification Opportunities Act), after the law that expanded this funding in 2019.
Requirements
- The training goes beyond a short adaptation to your own job.
- Your vocational qualification was usually obtained at least two years ago.
- There has been no funding under section 82 in the last two years.
- The measure lasts more than 120 hours.
- The course and the provider are approved.
Training that the employer is legally obliged to provide is excluded (section 82 (1) SGB III).
Employer's share of the costs
The employer should contribute appropriately to the course costs: 50 percent for 50 to 499 employees, 75 percent from 500 employees. In businesses with fewer than 50 employees this contribution should be waived, and in businesses with fewer than 500 employees also for employees aged 45 or over or with a severe disability (section 82 (2) SGB III). Wage subsidies are also possible (section 82 (3) SGB III).

In practice: an example
An administrative clerk in a business with 30 employees would like to do a 300-hour training course in data. She obtained her vocational qualification ten years ago and has never received funding before. She talks to her employer and, together with them, to the employment agency. Because the business has fewer than 50 employees, no contribution to the costs should be required from the employer. The employment agency decides whether funding is granted.

How often can I be funded as an employee?
At the earliest two years after the last funding under section 82 SGB III (section 82 (1) no. 3 SGB III).
