What training costs can the employment agency cover?

Which training costs the employment agency can cover with the education voucher: course fees, travel, accommodation and childcare.

In brief

Training costs (Weiterbildungskosten) (Course costs, Cost coverage): Training costs (Weiterbildungskosten) are the costs that can be covered for funded training: course costs, travel costs, accommodation and meals away from home, and childcare (section 83 SGB III).

What is included

  • Course costs and costs of the aptitude assessment
  • Travel costs
  • Costs of accommodation and meals away from home
  • Costs of childcare

According to the Federal Employment Agency, course costs also include necessary learning materials, work clothing and examination fees. What is covered in your case is stated in the decision notice (Bescheid).

Costs with other funding routes

With Qualifizierungsgeld, the employer pays the course costs; with funding for employees, the employer contributes depending on the size of the business. In vocational rehabilitation, the rehabilitation provider covers the costs, according to the pension insurance without co-payment. An overview is on the page Funding.

Billing

Costs incurred with the provider can be paid directly to the provider (section 83 (2) SGB III). So you usually do not have to pay for the course in advance.

In practice: an example

You live in the countryside, the course partly takes place in person, and you also have a child of nursery age. Raise travel costs and childcare in the counselling appointment, because both can be part of the training costs (section 83 SGB III). What is covered will then be stated in the decision notice. With purely online courses, travel costs usually do not arise at all.
