Training bonus (Weiterbildungsprämie) (Bonus for the intermediate and final examination): The training bonus (Weiterbildungsprämie) rewards passed examinations in funded training that leads to a qualification: 1,000 euros for the intermediate examination and 1,500 euros for the final examination (section 87a (1) SGB III).
Requirements
The training is funded under section 81 SGB III and leads to a qualification in an occupation with a training period of at least two years. The first bonus is paid after passing the intermediate examination or the first part of a final examination taken in two parts (gestreckte Abschlussprüfung), the second after passing the final examination.
Who the bonus does not apply to
Courses ending with a certificate but no vocational qualification, for example a course in project management, do not qualify for the bonus, even if they are funded with an education voucher. What counts is the qualification in an occupation with a training period of at least two years. More on retraining in the article Retraining with an education voucher.
In practice: an example
You are doing funded retraining as an IT specialist (Fachinformatiker). After passing the intermediate examination you receive 1,000 euros, and after passing the final examination a further 1,500 euros, so 2,500 euros in total (section 87a (1) SGB III). Discuss with the employment agency which evidence you need to submit after the examination.
