AutoCAD course with an education voucher

Technical drawing with AutoCAD funded by an education voucher: dimensioning, layers, layouts and 3D solid models in an online course with tutor support.

In the engineering area we currently list one course: technical drawing with AutoCAD. It is aimed at career changers and people working in technical or planning jobs who want to work with CAD. You do not need any CAD experience, as the course starts with an introduction to the software. You should be at least 18 and have good German skills (at least B1).

The course first covers drawing and editing commands, then layers, text, hatching and dimensioning, blocks and external references, and drawing setup and layout. At the end it moves on to 3D solid models and visualisation. It is an online distance course with tutor support and takes about 17 weeks full-time, around eight months part-time or about ten months alongside work. You need a computer that can run AutoCAD and an installed version of AutoCAD. You finish with a certificate from the training provider; the course is a state-approved distance learning course (ZFU).

The course can be funded with an education voucher (Bildungsgutschein, § 81 SGB III); the decision lies with your employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit), since 2025 also if you are supported by a Jobcenter. If you are looking for technical training in a different direction, we check in a free consultation whether there are other suitable options. You will also find related topics in media and design, for example 3D design with Autodesk 3ds Max or product design with the 3D software Rhino.

What to look for when choosing a course

  • Check your computer: AutoCAD has hardware requirements, so make sure in advance that your computer can run it.
  • Clarify the licence: an installed version of AutoCAD is required. Ask before enrolling how you can get a licence.
  • Plan your time realistically: at about 17 weeks full-time the course is extensive; part-time it takes around eight months, alongside work about ten.
  • Match it to your goal: the course teaches technical drawings and 3D models in AutoCAD. For visualisation with 3ds Max or product design with Rhino there are separate courses in media and design.

Frequently asked questions about this area

Do I need prior knowledge for the AutoCAD course?

No CAD skills are needed; the course starts with an introduction to AutoCAD and is also aimed at career changers. You need to be at least 18, have good German skills (at least B1), a computer that can run AutoCAD and an installed version of AutoCAD. Experience from a technical or planning job helps you put things into context but is not a requirement.

Will I also learn 3D modelling in the course?

Yes, in part. The focus is on technical drawings: drawing and editing commands, layers, dimensioning, blocks, external references, and drawing setup and layout. Towards the end the course covers 3D solid models and visualisation. If you mainly want to design in 3D, also take a look at 3D design or product design in the media and design area.

Why is there only one course in the engineering area?

We only list courses that are AZAV-approved and can be funded with an education voucher or AVGS. In engineering, that is currently technical drawing with AutoCAD. If you are looking for a different technical direction, get in touch: in a free consultation we check whether there are other options. An education voucher is then decided by your employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit).

Advice is given in German

Our advice is given in German; in exceptional cases partly in English. Most courses are taught in German, and many require German language skills, sometimes with proof. This page is in English for information only.
