AVGS coaching: one-to-one coaching with a voucher
One-to-one online coaching with AVGS: job applications, orientation, starting a business, integration and more. Free advice on which coaching suits you.
AVGS coaching is not a course with a fixed curriculum but personal support. In one-to-one coaching by video call you work on your professional situation, typically twice a week for 90 minutes each. The coachings are for people who are unemployed or looking for work, and some also for employees at risk of unemployment. Sessions are held in German or English, and you need good spoken and written skills in one of them.
The eight coachings in this area have different focuses. Job application coaching improves your documents and supports your active job search up to contacting employers. Career orientation coaching and coaching for experienced professionals start with an assessment of where you stand and clarify where you want to go. Business start-up coaching works on your business idea, business plan and financing plan. Integration coaching covers, among other things, the recognition of foreign qualifications, and social coaching helps to reduce burdens and obstacles in the job search. There are also coachings for care professionals and for parents and returners. Depending on the coaching, the maximum duration is between 10 and 23 weeks.
Coaching is funded through the activation and placement voucher (AVGS) under § 45 SGB III. The voucher is issued by your employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit) or Jobcenter, and the decision lies with them. The voucher usually states what it is for, for example job applications or starting a business. Our advice is free: we help you find the right coaching and prepare the meeting with the authority together with you.

What to look for when choosing a course
- Read your voucher carefully: the AVGS usually states a goal or content. The coaching you choose has to match it.
- Have the equipment ready: you need a computer with a stable internet connection, a headset and a webcam, because all sessions take place by video call.
- Commit the time: two sessions a week of 90 minutes each over several weeks is a fixed rhythm. Sort out childcare and other commitments in advance.
- Pick the right focus: if your career goal is already clear, job application coaching is the better fit. If your goal is still open, an orientation coaching is usually the better start.
Frequently asked questions about this area
How do I get an AVGS for coaching?
Talk to your adviser at the employment agency or Jobcenter and describe specifically what you want coaching to help with, for example job applications, orientation or starting a business. It helps if you already know a suitable coaching and can explain why it fits. The decision is made by the authority. We are happy to help you prepare.
How does one-to-one online coaching work?
You meet your coach by video call, usually twice a week for 90 minutes each. It starts with getting to know each other, followed by the topics of the coaching, such as assessing where you stand, your application documents or a business plan. Because it is one-to-one, the approach follows your situation. There is no travel, you take part from home.
Do I get a certificate after the coaching?
Coaching is not a training course with an exam, so no qualification is planned. The result is something else: for example revised application documents, a clear career goal, a business plan or a plan for returning to work. If the coaching shows that you lack specific knowledge, training funded by an education voucher can be the next step.
